People look to stretching and mobility routines as a means of improving range of motion, but those things tend to be more “patches” than actual solutions. Mobility limitations are often a byproduct of being too weak to safely move in a full range of motion. Tightness and inflexibility are your body’s way of keeping your from getting injuring by preventing you from moving in ranges of motion you aren’t strong enough to support. The way you get flexible is to train in these ranges of motion. Start with a partial range-of-motion and work your way up. You’ll get stronger in the process. There is no need to do a whole separate stretching routine just to prepare for a movement.
